I find the human narrative inside complex work —
then produce the content that carries it.

The Method
“Start with the audience and what they need to feel. Then build the story backward from that moment.”
Whether the audience is a boardroom, a film festival, or a million people on YouTube, my process is the same. Clearly define the destination, then construct every element of the narrative to deliver the audience there.

What I Produce
Documentary & Film
Feature and short-form documentary production. From concept through delivery — narrative development, stakeholder coordination, and post-production oversight.
Video Series
Episodic content that builds audience over time. Educational series, thought leadership platforms, and character-driven storytelling designed for scale.
Multimedia Campaigns
Integrated narrative strategies across web, social, video, and executive platforms. Every channel serves the story. Every asset moves the audience forward.
Narrative Strategy
For organizations that need the story before the content. Audience mapping, message architecture, and storytelling frameworks that align complex stakeholder ecosystems.

Ask a Scientist
Creator & Executive Producer — Video Series
Conceived and launched weeks into the pandemic, when no one in pharma was doing anything like it. One-on-one over Zoom with PhD scientists, coaching them to explain concepts like circulating tumor DNA to a six-year-old. No crew, no studio, just a laptop and the right questions.

About
Jonathan Michael Kay
Neuroscience researcher turned story producer. For two decades, I have worked in global health, scientific communications, and institutional storytelling — learning that every expert, breakthrough, and crisis contains a human story worth telling.
My background is unusual. I started in neuropsychological research at Boston University, studying how the brain processes information and forms understanding. That foundation shapes everything I produce. When you understand how people think, you can build narratives that resonate at a deeper level.
I have executive produced an award-winning documentary, created a STEM video series seen by 375,000 people, built communications operations across four continents, and served as narrative advisor to C-suite leaders at some of the world’s largest organizations. I work best with teams doing complex, high-stakes work who struggle to communicate why it matters.

I work with organizations, founders, and institutions on documentaries, video series, multimedia campaigns, and narrative strategy. First conversation is always free.
